Sundial reveals were yesterday and I got the cutest Weilan art from cyberbrain!

I also wrote two fics (neither of which is the one I set out to write, but that's the way it goes sometimes)

Expectations: in which Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan aren't on the same page and have a bit of a misunderstanding.

A Thousand Little Things: Shen Wei is an expert in many areas - romance isn't one of them. Or so he thinks. Zhao Yunlan is happy to set him straight.

The mods did a great job setting up and organizing the event, and I'm really glad I got to participate!

Prompt ideas (feel free to ignore): I love outsider POVs so maybe someone seeing Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan interact and seeing their relationship from the outside. Domestic fic involving Da Qing as a valuable member of their family is my soft spot.

General Likes: Established relationship, first times, pining, domesticity, team as family, case fic, curtain fic, day in the life. Hurt/comfort is great, both physical and emotional. Happy Endings, everyone lives, and most AUs. I love zombies. Just putting that out there :) I would also love something about Dixing and ZYL learning about Shen Wei's culture/society would be AMAZING.

I didn't intend for the Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty to consume my soul this weekend, but that seems to be what happened.

I get an unreasonable amount of delight out of Shen Wei having in-depth knowledge of kinky sex stuff and Zhao Yunlan choking on his drink when Shen Wei brings it up.

Zhang Shi leaves him in peace for the most part. Da Qing speaks to him for work related purposes and nothing else, and usually keeps his eyes firmly locked onto the wall over Zhang Shi’s shoulder whenever they have to interact. He hasn’t looked them man in the eyes since the first moment he took control of Zhao Yunlan’s body, and doesn’t think he’ll ever manage to again.

Lao Chu takes his orders and makes his reports, but there’s none of the snark he’d given Chief Zhao, none of the quiet respect that had marked their interactions toward the end. They’d have been friends now, if Zhao Yunlan had lived, Da Qing is certain of it. But he hadn’t, and they aren’t, and if Lao Chu feels anything when he looks at Zhang Shi, he doesn’t show it. Lin Jing can’t meet Zhang Shi’s eyes and stinks of guilt whenever they interact. The new recruits fall over themselves at first, then settle into a pattern of trust and respect.

Xiao Guo is respectful, but he lets Lao Chu do most of the reporting and keeps a careful distance from Zhang Shi whenever he politely can. When they have to interact, there’s always a hint of sadness in him. “My powers don’t stop working around him,” he told Da Qing once. “Everytime he comes too close, I get Chief Zhao’s last wish and. And it’s good!” he adds quickly, but his breath is shaking in his throat and his eyes are already bright with tears. “He was thinking of us, and of the people of Dixingren. He just wanted to protect everyone.” His smile drooped a little. “But he wanted to see Shen Wei again, beneath all of it. More than anything else, he wanted to see all of us again before he died. And he died alone.”

Episode 36 thoughts: I really feel like these last ten episodes are super rushed? Like there was an endgame and they thought they had 20 eps to get us there, but then the show got cancelled and now they're trying to skip ahead and get us somewhere they didn't have a chance to lay the groundwork for? I could be wrong, but the plot gaps are starting to show.

Also, Zhao Xinci/Zhang Shi being all "that idiot" like DUDE. You said you'd take the blame, then apparently spent two days doing fuck all so you don't get to complain!

I really want to write my "Shen Wei fakes ZYL's death and he goes underground as a resistance leader" fic now. That scene with them all listening to his radio announcement would have been AMAZING as a "rising up to challenge Ye Zun" moment.

I love Li Qian, but seriously? Call security or something? I don't expect you to fight the Old Man Hulk by yourself or anything, but this is HIGHLY UNETHICAL.

Chu showing up all badass to rescue his dork. And then ZYL knowing how to wake up Zhu Hong and Da Qing - I love it.

The scene where Zhao Yunlan gets taken hostage for like half a second and then just shoots his captor? *fans self* Yes please.

So, episode 34 mostly made me want to take Zhao Yunlan's face in my hands and smoosh it a little. You cannot be a fugitive from justice while driving around your incredibly tiny city in a vehicle that is, at best, extremely recognizable. Zhao Yunlan. What are you thinking. You are smarter than this.

Also I didn't realize the time travel started in this one! I thought it was 35! I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR BABY SHEN WEI!
