mmm-mmmmm. I can taste the goodness.
And now: Random Fandom! Items 6-10
1-5 (because I know you all care so very much) can be found here.
6) I have the lingering conviction that people only write Elfquest fic because they like making up shiny new names for their characters. There's nothing inherently wrong with this, although it does make the fandom a little stale if you're looking for fic about, oh, Skywise and Cutter and not Silvermane and her identical twin magic using sister Pale Moon. Or something like that.
Also, Skywise's half-Go Back daughter would most likely not be a prude. Right? Half-Go Back? Also, Skywise's daughter? Neither of those traits lends themselves to prudery, exactly, by which I mean that such a child would probably be into orgies and dirty jokes. So if she did hook up with Dart through Recognition (at the tender age of nineteen, which is pretty damned young for an elf) I doubt she'd be pissed off that he has a male lovemate. Well, several. Also, it'd be none of her damned business since Recognition does not equal marriage. I don't see the son of Strongbow and Moonshade putting up with some little bitch trying to tell him how to live his life just because she's got the right DNA to satisfy a primal mating instinct.
7) Today I picked up issue 3 of the Ghostbusters mini series, which is shaping up to be interesting, if somewhat on the short side. The time jump doesn't bother me, and is more than made up for by the blatant slash subtext. Yes, Peter, Egon really does need you. To have his baby! BWAHAHA! Also, Winston is Santa Claus. That amuses me.
Ray did become rather... buff, didn't he? Wow. Also, very hot. Possibly hotter than Peter. I'm betting whoever pitched this idea was very much a Ray fanboy/girl.
8) The new Hardy Boys comic book = pure drivel. Since when does Frank like video games and Joe is a bookworm? And what's all this about Joe and Callie dating? Man, Scott Lobdell better watch his back - if the real Callie Shaw gets a glimpse of this she'll hunt him down and make him regret it. It's all well and good to do a revamp of an older series, it's not like the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew haven't been redone about thirty times in the last seventy-five years, but let's at least try to keep the characters recognizable, okay?
9) I'm officially one of the many fans of Lost. The plot's intriguing, I love the characters, the dialogue is witty. Also, Kate is hot. That's kind of a major attraction, actually. I don't feel any compelling need to write fanfic about it, although it's amusing to contemplate dumping some of my favorite characters into a similar situation.
Kelly's Fandom Lost!
-Peter Venkman and Egon Spengler - the Ghostbusters had just finished a big bust in Australia and were on their way home via LA. They weren't all sitting together since their tickets were purchased last minute. As a result Peter and Egon are forced to assume that Ray and Winston were killed in the crash...
-Shizuru Kuwabara - because oh my god, the man-eating monster wouldn't stand a chance against her. Also, they'd appreciate her ability to put everything in perspective.
"Oh this is nothing compared to the time that the demon king of the Netherworld broke free of his imprisonment, destroyed the spirit world and took over Tokyo, murdering my brother and several of his friends in the process, as well as hundreds of innocents." *takes heavy drag on cigarette* "What? You didn't hear about that? Oh, well, it was much worse than this."
-Rachel and Marco - Stowaways on the plane, trying to get back to the States after fighting Yeerks in Australia, they're torn between hunting down a suspected Controller who was on board, and trying to maintain their cover. They're impersonating deceased passengers so no one will notice they weren't supposed to be on the plane, but that can't hold water forever. Biggest problem? For some reason their morphing abilities don't work on the island.
-Jack O'Neil - The reasons here are fairly obvious. He'd be a good one to have around while weird shit is going on. Also, he's used to the inexplicable, so nothing would faze him all that badly. Although the others might drive him crazy eventually. He's secretly unaware that Blair Sandburg is actually the one calling the shots.
Mostly, I just like the idea of Jack trying to keep the Ghostbusters and Animorphs in line for any amount of time.
-Joe Hardy - on the plane because he'd been in Australia for a class trip or a case or something. Frank's probably dead and/or missing. I really just like the idea of hot-head Joe running around an island full of monsters while the rest of the cast tries to remind him that there are monsters out there. He and Rachel would get along very well, I think. Once they got over deciding who would be alpha male. (they'd both lose to Jack)
-Blair Sandburg - the exact opposite of Jack. Also, we've seen Jim without his guide, so let's see the guide without his Sentinel. Plus, his psych background and ability to speqak several languages would help keep the survivors together.
-Elisa Maza - seriously, wouldn't you want her on your side if you were stuck on that island? She's plenty used to dealing with monsters, and she always seems to win any fight she gets herself into. She'd probably have a weapon, or ten, and she's a good detective, so she'd be vital in figuring out what was going on. She'd make a great middle ground between Jack and Blair.
- ATF-verse Ezra Standish and Vin Tanner - I do tend to favor the cop shows, don't I? Same reasons as Elisa, also they could be the token romance. *grins*
*contemplates* They'd never get off the island.
10) My name is Kelly, and I like Lord of the Rings. I like Frodo and Sam and Boromir and Aragorn and Gandalf. I love Merry and Pippin, and the Legolas/Gimli dynamic makes me giddy.
That said, the fandom makes my eyes bleed. I never thought I'd see a fandom that made Gundam Wing look friendly and well-adjusted, but apparently there it is. Oh. My. God. The book fans hate the movie fans, the fic writers hate the fan artists, the slashers hate the het-writers and somewhere in the middle is about five people who just write excellent fanfic while covering their ears and chanting "LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" as loudly as they can.
I love those fic writers. The rest of the fandom... *eyes warily* Well, I've had my rabies shot.
(also ltlj's been updated and I am such a little geek but this made my day)
