Dec. 30th, 2004 05:59 pmOky, so today kind of sucked in that "if this phone rings one more time I'm gonna throw it out the frickin' window!" kind of way. There were about ten million people in the store - and seriously, people, what's up with that? Didn't you know that the week after Christmas is supposed to be slow? You're all supposed to be at home wincing as you glance over your checkbooks and wondering if it's really all that illegal to sell your children to the questionable foreign restaurant down the street for extra cash. I know this, for the records tell me so. *waves LY sales reports at people* So stop fucking with my statistics, people!
Anyway, on top of everything else, the District Manager called having a hissy fit because we didn't send her the info she needed. Except we did and if she wasn't in her office today and she wanted it sent to her cell phone, perhaps she should have told us so. It took a bit to calm her down, but we eventually did.
Then there was a bomb threat over at the shipyards, which didn't involve us directly except that traffic sucked for a good long while as a result, and since we're right near the interstate we got a whole slew of pissy people who saw that the traffic through the tunnel was backed up and decided to stop and visit us instead.
Also, for the record? We are a *insert store name here* cafe, which serves Starbucks products. It says so on the sign. We are not a Starbucks. We only carry their products. So no I will not take your Starbucks card, and complaining about it to every last damn person in the store will do you no good. You're that adamant to use your Starbucks card and not your debit/cash/offspring? Fine. There's a Starbucks a quarter-mile down the road. Go grace them with your shining presence.
One last thing? I don't care if you have your MA in English - that doesn't mean that you're the end-all be-all authority. It does mean, presumably, that you're intelligent enough to read the bcak of the book to find out what it's about. Also, coming to information and complaining to me that I don't hire enough English majors is not going to endear you to me. Just so you know. For the record, you don't need an English degree to know how to read - and you definitely don't need one to form your own opinion about what is and isn't worth reading. Do not EVER insult one of my employees again because she's still in school. She may not have your degree, but she's definitely a hell of a lot nicer and more well-adjusted than you are, you conceited bitch.
Also? For someone with an MA in English, your conversational skills were ridiculous. Is "analiticalize" actually a word?
So with all that under my belt, the day is shaping up rather nicely. Then 3:45 comes, I should have gotten off at 3:30 and K1, the ASM comes by and says, "JN (the store manager) wants to talk to you before you leave, but he's stuck in traffic. So hang around for a few."
At which point I decide that if I'm going to get chewed out, I'm going to do it with a frappachino, by God.
Good news? No chewing out. I've been recommended for a promotion. It's lateral, I'll still be a Department Manager, but the store I'd be going to is higher volume, which means added responsibility and a raise. Nothing's definite yet, but the district manager was the one who recommended me. My store manager backed her up (and, I am told, recommended me over the other applicant, whom he also knew). Also, the store manager at the store where the opening will be is a guy I met briefly at the Short Pump store. He trained with B who thinks I'm the coolest thing since sliced bread. So if he asks B for an opinion, I know I'll get a good recommendation.
So that's my day. I'm de-stressing with chinese food, Smirnoff Twisted (raspberry!) and Kim Possible. So how was everyone else today?
