If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

"I think you saved us!" Xander blurted out. He exchanged a confused look with Willow and added, "How, exactly, did you do that?"

"What is going on out here?"
"I think Hiei's drunk. Or something. He seems to be talking to that tree, at any rate."
"I'm not drunk."
"Who the fuck gave the homicidal demon alcohol?"
"Probably Yusuke."
"I'm not drunk!"

So we were two fallen angels – or Jake was anyway, and I was just a recently demoted door guard from the pearly gates – walking down the streets of our quiet little suburban town with a bowl of dog food in one hand and a squeaky chew toy in the other.
***
"Do you ever worry about those two?" Tobias demanded in a strangled voice.
***
She took the elevator back down to the first floor, not wanting to trust her legs to the stairs. She leaned against the wall, arms crossed protectively over her chest – more because the scrubs had torn in more than one place when she took her first header down the stairs than because she was cold or feeling vulnerable – and watched Aely’s body rock slightly as the elevator came to a stop.
***
A cage of songbirds sits on the balcony off my bedroom, and they sing in the morning as the sun rises, only to fall silent the rest of the day. They keep me company at night sometimes, when I pull away the cloth covering their cages and use a lantern to convince them to sing.

The apartment was dark. Kurama held himself still, in the middle of the room, a beer in his hand and didn't even breathe.
There were no shadows. There was no movement of air.
Outside the windows it was midday, and the sky was cloudless, but the sunlight stopped at the glass and didn't venture further.
In the hallway, something skittered.
***
"Right," Yuusuke said absently. "I can't talk about dying in front of the neighbors."
***
Yusuke was confused. This wasn't at all how it was supposed to go.
***
Son of a bitch, he thought tiredly as he jammed his feet into his shoes and shimmied into a pair of jeans, then fell over sideways and tried it again in reverse. Always on my days off.
***
Yusuke did the reasonable thing, for a man in his position. He yelped, fell backwards and ended up flat on his ass in the dirt of the Makai.
***
"I can't believe I fell for that." He hedged a moment, then corrected himself. "Okay, I can believe it, but that's no excuse."
***
"If one more person asks Kurama and Hiei if they want to get married, one of them is going to wipe this entire town off the face of the earth and I can't help but think that wouldn’t endear us to the locals."
***
Possibly the last place in the world Kurama had expected to run into Hiei was in the crowded arcade down the street from Yuusuke's apartment on Four Games for 100 Yen night.
