Yay! My eBay auctions are going well! The sales will go to benefit the Kelly Wants YYH on DVD Foundation.

Had a great time this weekend, saw many people and got to hang out with Meiran and Cyn and Leslie and Molly and Megan. Molly wouldn't let me have my Christmas present though. Sadness. I won't complain too loudly, though, because she might take her Inuyasha back. ;)

Sources tell me Bush is up for the Nobel Peace Prize. Canada is looking better every minute.

In happier news, I'm reading Anne Bishop's The Black Jewels Trilogy. I was told about it last year (exactly a year ago, I still have the receipt) by [livejournal.com profile] meiran, but it didn't sound like something I would enjoy. I bought the prequel, The Invisible Ring largely to make her happy, but I never got around to reading it. Recently, [livejournal.com profile] sidara read the series and began urging me to check it out. The way she described it was much different from how [livejournal.com profile] meiran had, and I was willing to give it a shot, though I remained wary. I read the prequel in pretty much one sitting this Saturday (we went to dinner about halfway through) and I loved every page of it.

It was originally described as... well... violent porn. I know [livejournal.com profile] meiran kept assuring me that it wasn't like that, but it certainly seemed that way from her descriptions. Having read it, however, I'm fascinated by the society Bishop created, and the amazing depth she goes to in describing how one corrupted person can corrupt an entire world. The violence is just a reflection of that. The male Blood serve and protect the female - but in return the female Blood are supposed to nurture and protect the male. But now the female Blood have made themselves into rulers and dictators where they were once advisors and guiders. And the male Blood, finding themselves enslaved by people they should be loyal to, are starting to lash out and fight back. It's fascinating.

So, to summarize, [livejournal.com profile] meiran and [livejournal.com profile] sidara both have good taste in books, but [livejournal.com profile] sidara is much better at describing things. ;)
