I'm beginning to understand the people who say "I don't watch the news - there's never anything good on anyway." Because news like we've had lately makes me want to tear my hair out. Or just cry.
It was nice of the Democratic Party to show up finally, although it would have been nicer if they'd filibustered, or launched some serious debate. By all accounts it seems that the Democratic Party is so worried that they might be accused of being easy on terrorists (which the White House will say anyway) that they can't be bothered to do the right goddamn thing. This isn't another endless debate on the inheritance tax, guys. This is about torture, inprisonment and the fact that George W. Bush - a man who has admitted that he doesn't like to "analyze" things - has the right to declare you an unlawful combatant with little to no just cause, lock you up, deny you a trial and do anything he wants to you. Anything. And when it's all over, the information he tortured out of you can be used against your friends - except that their defense lawyers (assuming they are allowed any) will not be allowed to know what this information is.
Jesus Christ. This is what our country is about?
Do me a favor, everyone? Start watching the news. Start paying attention to more than whether or not the gay community is trying to steal your holy matrimony and start worrying about things like human rights and the elimination of trial by jury.
And then vote. Because November's not that far away.
