The internet service at Hampton Pulic Libraries really, truly sucks.

I can send email but not read it, and update LJ, but not read it. This is a continuing annoyance which is slowly weakening my resolve not to pay for internet.

grrr.

In other news, I'm back! San Fransisco was gorgeous and I had a great time. I'm already working with my boss to work out the details of transferring out there next spring or summer sometime. Seeing [livejournal.com profile] sidara was great, even if she did take me to all sorts of places where I spent way too much money.

I have Wayfarer Redemption! And the Crucible trilogy! WOOT!

I am also so broke that I can't even think about it without getting light-headed. But I had a great time and I want to go back.

In other news, I've lost all desire to unpack. Knowing I was only going to be here for a year had rather dampened my enthusiasm for getting settled in, and now that I have been informed of where I'm going next and when, I've lost all desire to put the last of my stuff away. [livejournal.com profile] dredpirateleena said it best when she said I was feeling transient. And I am. I just want to get where I'm going, and the fact that this next year has to come first is getting on my nerves.

No, I'm not impatient at all.

Michael Thomas Ford is my new hero. I love his essays and I spent even more money on getting the last of them when I went in to work the other day. I was impressed enough with us just for having them in the first place. Go bookstore!

What else? Saw Leena last night! We had a belated 4th of July dinner; hotdogs, lemonade and corn on the cob. We had a wild and crazy evening which involved the X-Files, Michael Whelan and the fantasy section of our local B&N. *grins* We know how to do a good time right.

The library, I have just discovered, carries the entire Everworld series, which I've been wanting to reread. It's almost enough to make me forgive them for their sucky internet.

And in other news, Virginia continues to reaffirm my opinion that it is the most backward state in the union by passing legislature to enforce a religious day of rest. A couple of judges are halting it, but still. For pity's sake. First they outlawed gays and now they're forcing corporations to adhere to religious standards. The only thing about this law that doesn't make me gag is that the specifically stated it could be Saturday or Sunday, so they weren't just talking about Christianity.

But still.

All right, I'm going to run. It's my second day off in a row and I want to do some straightening around the apartment and get some writing in while it's still to hot to venture outdoors.
