I went to see Over the Hedge with Shauna and her kids yesterday, which was an interesting experience, since Shaunua's 3-year-old daughter absolutely hates me. It's a bit of a kick to my ego, but Gabby hates most adults who aren't her parents, so I just kind of shrug. Her brother thinks I am the coolest thing ever because I'm tall enough to climb. ;)

Anyway, the movie was adorable. I'm only slightly familiar with the comic strip it's based on, but when I go to the B&N later to pick up my DVD (special order of the new volume of TMNT! YES! Hun on the Run!) I may grab the collection out of the humor section and flip through it over a hot chocolate in the cafe.

The animation was cute. Tons of jokes for the adults and cute fluffy moments for the kids. RJ's explanation of how animals eat to live but humans "live to eat!" was hilarious. There's some social commentary in there; they poke fun at Rabid Homeowner's Associations, people who drive and talk on their cell phones, and general suburban life. Mostly it was just a really sweet movie about a bunch of animals who wake up one spring to find out that their home has turned into a real estate development.

If you have read the comic strip, the premise of the movie is the first time RJ and Verne meet, and how RJ proceeds to get Verne and his friends in lots and lots of trouble. RJ's a little less of a spazz than he seems to be in the comics and a bit more of a rogue.

It occured to me toward the end of the movie that someone, somewhere, is writing RJ/Verne fic and I almost choked to death on my white cherry Icee.

In other news, my brother is leaving for DC on Wednesday! *spins* Once he's settled he's going to come visit me for a couple of days. I'm very excited about this. Bobby and I get along really well. Plus, he's going to fix my computer and bring Season Two Atlantis episodes with him! *bounces* He still hasn't found an apartment, as far as I can tell, so he may be a little desperate by the time he gets there (in two days).

And did I mention he's going to fix my computer?

I'm going through my stuff again and doing another culling. It gets easier to throw things away every time I do this. I look at stuff I decided to keep last time and think "I still haven't watched/read/used this thing" and toss it on the pile. Eventually I hope that everything I own, minus furniture, will fit in a car. That way, when I transfer, I won't have to deal with renting vans or hiring people or anything. And frankly, most of the furniture can be given away or sold off in a yard sale.

Which reminds me that I need to call Benders and set up a time to go in and see if I can unload some of this stuff. They buy comics, paperback books and DVDs & VHS, so I'm hoping they'll take some of this off my hands. Especially some of the mass market paperbacks; there's no point selling them on eBay or half.com. If Bender's doesn't want them, I'm just taking them all to the library.

Babble over. Laundry should be done now.
