Apparently I don't post enough about my original writing, so here's a little poll. I'm more or less deadlocked on what to work on next, so feel free to give me your opinion. *grins* Just don't blame me if I end up working on something else. I'm fickle like that.

Brief summaries of the original stories are below. Click on the LJ-cut and then vote!

[Poll #713474]

Some generations ago, Hell invaded Heaven. Some hundreds of thousands of souls were scattered with Heaven's fall. Some faded into nothingness, others became attached to trees, animals, rivers, buildings, objects and artifacts, some others took over living humans, expelling the soul that lived within.

With the fall of Heaven, demons turned their attention next to the world of men. For years they overran the human realm, fighting a war against humanity, and the few archangels and demigods who had survived the fall of Heaven. Eventually, the demons were pushed back, if not completely expelled, but in the absence of that immediate threat, others became apparent.

With Heaven gone, death became a terror. With no eternal reward or resting place, the dying feared eternal oblivion, or worse. Some held out the hope of reincarnation, or that their souls would attach to nature as many of the Fallen had. But mostly, people feared that their souls would fade into nothingness as had the majority of the Fallen had seemed to. Desperate men began to partner with demons, false magicians, dark priests, performing acts of evil in the hopes of acquiring immortality. Talk of people buying or stealing children, hoping to transfer their soul into another body, talk of murdering young woman and bathing in their blood. And worse.

The immortal archangels who had defended humanity became prey to these men and several were killed for their blood and flesh. Now they have pulled away from humanity, living in the unsettled parts of the world and keeping watch on the demons lurking just beyond.

And then there were the demonkin.

The demons did their share of raping and pillaging as they swept across the world of men, and many women found themselves bearing a demon's child. Some killed themselves, others were killed by family members or neighbors. Some forced miscarriages through herbal remedies or the help of a midwife. Some others carried the child to term and gave birth to monstrous things that were drowned, poisoned or burned alive as soon as they were born.

Some others gave birth to children that appeared normal and raised them. These were the demonkin. Half-demons who could pass as human.

The demonkin live longer than humans, though are not immortal. Many possess unusually abilities, or inhuman strengths. Nearly all eventually develop monstrous appetites and murderous rages.

Saara is a demonkin, the daughter of a half-demon father and a human mother. She had no idea what she was, until the spring of her sixth year, when her father woke in the middle of the night and began to systematically murder every man, woman and child in their village. She survived along with her brother, Jagen, and their mother who killed herself shortly afterward. But knowing what she is, Saara cannot find any kind of peace. Demonkin always give in to their demon blood eventually.

one life

Edgwic of Lor was so unconcerned with the birth of his youngest son that he could not even be bothered to give the child a name, forcing his nurses, tutors, and even his mother to refer to the boy as the tenth son, a name which came, in time, to be simply Tenth.

one law

In Lor, the right of inheritance is the Right of the Firstborn. The eldest son gains all, while daughters marry young, and younger sons are set for lives in the military, priesthood, or in apprenticeships. Tenth’s place in life should have been decided at the moment of his birth.

one power

For a thousand generations the Kings of Lor have each been born with the Right, a power granted the royal bloodline by a long-dead god. Greater than any magician’s, and more powerful than even the highest Cleric, the Right may take many forms, but each king since the beginning of Lor has been able to wield the Soul Sword, and it has become the true symbol of the Lor Royalty. Until Edgwic’s eldest son failed to demonstrate the Right… and his youngest drew the Soul Sword for all to see.

one Right

Corin has the Right of the Firstborn, set in stone, law for a thousand generations. But Tenth wields the Right itself, made law by a thousand generations of belief. Only one may inherit – but neither may live long enough to see a decision made.

Set in a dystopic future society, Rae is a "Beta" - anon-augmented foot solider - to the Pack, a gang of men and women with physically augmented bodies. Rival gangs include the Stalkers, the Insane Clown Posse (I need to come up with a real name for them, but trust me, this one fits) and the Ghosts. The Pack is weakened by internal warfare when one of the Pack's sub-chiefs, Aery, decides to seize control of the gang for herself, and kills their leader and many of the Pack's Betas. Rae manages to escape into the sewers, where she is pursued by Aery, a hunting team of Stalkers, and about a hundred thousand hungry rats.

D&D based series about a warrior named Shea (pronounced "shay") with a serious phobia of the undead and a societal taboo against magic, who is recruited by a water elemental named Tethys to help save the world along with a ragtag band of magic-using heroes and enemies who can raise the dead. It went downhill from there. Features Shey (also pronounced "shay"), Azhure the sorcerer, Skaadi the barbarian and ex-goddess of skis, Laucien an exiled elf-princess, Dex the well-intentioned cleric with a sentient mace, and a variety of others. Highlights include the Time They Fought the Zombies Part 1 of 209, the Great Cross-Dressing Adventure, Why Shey and Dex Cannot Be Left Alone EVER, and Skaadi's Sheep. Also called The Tethys Chronicles.
