onemuseleftI'm watching Roswell for the first time. My aunt thought I'd like it and sent me the first three seasons on DVD. The plot in interesting, and I'm interested in the back story, but there's one problem.
I want to kill everyone.
Michael's pretty interesting, and I like Isabel and Alex. And Maria has some great moments, but OH MY GOD, if Liz opens her mouth one more time I will beat her with a shovel. And since she's a picture on my TV screen, I will be out one TV when this happens.
"Oh no, Michael is sick! I can help heal him but I won't because what if one day Max gets sick too! *weeps and whines and angsts*"
What the fuck? I'm supposed to be sympathetic to this character who spends pretty much the entire series so far (I'm 3/4 through the first season) whining and generally being the most passive human being ever? She's seized control once so far, and that was when she went to the reservation whether Max wanted her to or not. The rest of the time she stands around being indecisive and upset. I want to grab her by the shoulders and just yell "Get a grip!" in her face.
And Max... *beats head against desk* Now, if any of you have watched this, please tell me - am I supposed to think he's an obnoxious, bossy asshole with serious control issues? Or am I supposed to think he's the calm, cool, in command guy? Because, frankly, I'm leaning toward the former here. He's a jerk to Michael (who only deserves it half the time. ;) and walks around making decisions for everyone in the entire freaking series. I'm sure I'm supposed to forgive it because he is OMG SO SPECIAL but frankly, I'm not feeling the love.
The side characters... A sherriff who does some extremely inappropriate things with teenage "prisoners" and an FBI agent who keeps blowing her cover. Misc. parental units who so far only exist to add even more angst to the plot ("I hate lying to my parents!" angst all over the place). An ex-boyfriend who started out sympathetic but rapidly turned into dumb jock, over-possessive ex-boyfriend.
Michael is hot. Alex is awesome. Maria is fun.
Isabel is very cool. She should start being the leader.
So maybe I don't hate everyone. Just the main characters.
*twitches* The really annoying part is: I want to know what happens. I want to know what the plot is and where everything is leading to, but I cannot take much more of Liz and Max and the unending cycle of wangst-indecision-passive-pushy-omgourloveissoextraterrestrial!
Edit: Maria just lost major cool points. Why am I still watching this? Please tell me it gets better later on, because I really want to know the backstory.
