Mar. 24th, 2005 04:09 pmI'm on vacation as of today, and supposed to drive up to New Jersey to visit with - well, pretty much my entire family, whom I haven't seen in at least two years. My parents found out I was going to NJ and took vacation time to drive down from Maine, my brother and sister each took a day off from work to drive over from MA, and VT respectively.
This morning I took the car to the shop to get my blinker fixed - the bulb had burned out, no biggee.
My suspension's shot, something about a tire rod and bearings, the alignment's gone because of the suspension and all four tires are on the verge of imminent explosion - one of them has apparently been worn away on the inside.
Total repair costs: an estimated $980. Not counting the goddamned blinker.
I don't have anything approaching that much money. I'm in Richmond and the guy's telling me that even driving back to Hampton on these tires would be a bad idea.
And even if I had the money, there's no way on earth to get it fixed in time to make it to New Jersey by tomorrow night.
I handled this like a mature woman, though. I thanked him, asked some questions, then hung up and burst into tears.
I don't know what I'm doing about it. Right now I think setting the car on fire and pushing it into the lake sounds like a plan. Then maybe I could change my name and move to the woods and live in a cave.
