excerpts from a work in progress
Mar. 3rd, 2005 02:32 amI'm up too late again. I'm starting to amuse myself. Never a good sign.
The trees are not dead, Hiei thought. It was not a conscious thought so much as a subconscious mental note to self brought about by entirely too many years in Kurama's presence. The trees are not dead, the youko insisted, although the bare, skeletal branches looked plenty dead to Hiei. They are dormant. They are hibernating. They are asleep. As far as concerned Hiei, who had tried both and cared for neither, sleep and death weren't all that different except that at the end of the day, if you were dead, you could at least look forward to yelling at Koenma for a bit and running into somone you used to know in purgatory. Sleep just seemed like the ultimate in a loss of self control.

Kurama's face twisted slightly into a certain look. It was a look that spoke of Kurama's innter turmoil. Of his volumes of experience as an ancient - if not exactly revered - fox spirit living amongst the youth of a chaotic human society. It was a look that said "Oh my god" and "this is a joke, right?" and "They're all idiots."
It was a look Kuwabara saw a lot.
