Correct me if I'm wrong.

We all knew this was going to be bad, right? I mean, it was a Category 5 hurricane hitting a city that's below sea level and already dependant on dams and levees, right?

So... Bush came back from vacation, when?

Oh, today, you say? Two days after the hurricane hit? Several days after we knew it was going to be a horrible, devastating natural disaster likely to affect millions of US citizens? Well, thank god he didn't do something drastic like cutting his vacation short, returning to the capital and organizing a full scale evacuation.

Or, you know, doing anything.

But, in fairness to G. W. Bush, I'm sure he was just too fucking scared of the big, bad Cindy Sheehan to risk leaving his ranch any sooner.

It's been a long couple of days, for everyone, I'm sure.

I've taken a personal day for tomorrow, in which I will sit, drink lemonade, and read a book which has been burning a hole in my pocket since I got it. When I have done that, I will prepare a formal request to my District Manager to be transferred as soon as an opening appears at any of the stores I have selected. I can't work with two supervisors who spend all their time trying to one-up each other and force the rest of us to draw sides. The stress level in the store is becoming insane, and I'm tired of being yelled at for doing something my boss told me to do - just, as it turns out, the wrong boss.

In other news, not a single retailer in the Hampton Roads area carries the Ninja Turtles. How do I know this? Because I looked. That's right. I looked. Everywhere. 3 Walmarts (thus violating my own "No Walmart!" law), 2 Targets, 1 Best Buy, 1 Circuit City, 1 Fye, 2 Barnes & Nobles, a Gamestop and an EB Games. No DVDs anywhere for me.

This is a sad day. I have special ordered it, but I won't get it till after the holiday. I am suitably broken-hearted. :P

I just took five big boxes of books - harcover fiction and mystery titles, trade paperback romances, mass market espionage thrillers, learn-to-draw books, children's picture books, history books on the area, and a range of classics - to the Hampton library. I had them in the trunk of my car, and I went in first to make sure they could use them. The woman in charge, Susan, came out and assured me that they'd be happy to accept a donation, since they had just purchased a new bookmobile, and they were trying to get it stocked. I hadn't mentioned how many books I was donating, so when I asked if I could borrow their handtruck, her eyes got all wide. ^_^ She thanked me a bunch of times, and when I left the office staff were already breaking into the boxes and talking about how many shelves they'd fill.

Felt good to do something nice. I'll have to remember their new bookmobile and suggest it at the holiday meeting when we decide on a recipient for the annual bookdrive.
