Jul. 14th, 2006 06:00 pmI have yet to read a single article or hear a single news report on the new situation between Israel and the Hezbollah terrorists that does not mention the new increase in oil prices, thus cementing my suspicions that people only care about the news if it directly affects them.
Israel blasts the holy bajeebus out of the Beirut airport? Again? OMG oil prices!
Hezbollah launches fucking rockets into civilian neighborhoods? OMG oil prices!
Approximately 88 people are dead as a result of the ongoing hostilities? OMG oil prices!
I'm a cynical, cynical woman, but doesn't that seem a little... cold?
Now, if the news was all: "Holy crap, it's starting to look a lot like WWIII, folks!" I could understand that. Or even warnings about maybe not traveling to that part of the world anytime soon, ditto. But every single article has mentioned that this horrible, terrible human tragedy is going to do one thing: raise our gas prices.
