Apr. 7th, 2006 01:23 pmWell, so much for that .01% of hope. The transmission's bad and they're quoting me $1400 to repair it. I checked on their reputation (I asked my regular mechanics about them last night) and they're reputable, plus the price is about what I assumed it would be. So that means Kelly is squat out of luck.
They're going to tow the car here for me early this afternoon and I can spend the rest of my vacation trying to clean it out. Other than the transmission, it's still in good shape so there may be some tiny hope of using it as a trade in (a lot of places down here advertise that you can drive it or tow it, but they'll still take it) or in the worst case scenario, there's a salvage yard that promises $400 for anything that's not rusted straight through.
Kimberly and Ken (Ken works for NASA and Kimberly works in retail, so they never get why I always snicker and call them the K&K Detective Agency) just bought a new car so Kimberly offered to let me use their old one to get to work and the grocery store and etc. Sheri's going to drive me in to work next week when I get back from my (no longer quite-as-much-fun vacation and Kimberly will meet me with the car then. Until then I'm just going to spend the weekend cleaning out the Olds (my poor, dead, broken baby) and doing some research on cars. I'm leaning toward a Camry or a Ford Focus at the moment. We'll see.
On the bright side? At least I picked up Narnia and TMNT volume 4 before I realized that I had such a huge expense coming my way. Otherwise I wouldn't have let myself buy them.
Still not happy, but it's not the end of the world.
