Feb. 26th, 2006 04:00 amI'm quite cranky today. I blame it on the evening news, mostly. The world kinda sucks tonight.
I also can't get in touch with anyone I'm trying to reach, which also adds to the frustration.
In other news, this story is laughing at me. I write a couple pages, delete them, start over, delete them. All the while, the blasted thing is mocking me. I'm determined to at least finish the first chapter, since it's supposed to be a gift and I've been sitting on it for a while. I'd planned on getting it written out by tomorrow night, and I'm going to stick to that, even if it means forcing through a couple rough spots. I can always go back, but this thing is annoying me enough that if I put it off I'll never pick it up again.
This is why I shouldn't write fic for fandoms I'm not active in.
Fandoms are weird. Some of them are mostly just a lot of fun - YYH fandom is remarkably wank-free, as far as I know, as is Hercules fandom and Dresden Files (this one is a baby fandom, though). Certain other fandoms, for example, are batshit fucking insane. *cough*HarryPotter*cough* Oh, individually I'm sure everyone is very nice. It's just when you let them play together that things go wrong, feelings are hurt, fanfic archives are deleted, Fandom_Wank starts making popcorn, and six months later people are still making snippy LJ posts about how some people just aren't smart enough to understand subtext. (Still looking at you, Harry Potter. )
Other fandoms are so hung up on subs vs dubs and who came to the fandom first that they just become elitist (Naruto) and others are so hung up on pairings (FMA, Gundam Wing) that I wander off in a dazed state muttering "must... have... plot..."
It makes one wonder.
And yes, I am just rambling so I don't have to go back to working on this story.
*sighs and wanders off to work*
Edit: My tax return just showed up in my savings account. That does a bit to improve my mood! Although it only further serves to distract me from this story.
