Aaron Broussard, president of Jefferson Parish, dropped his head and cried on NBC's "Meet the Press.''

"The guy who runs this building I'm in, emergency management, he's responsible for everything. His mother was trapped in St. Bernard nursing home, and every day she called him and said, `Are you coming, son? Is somebody coming?' And he said, `And yeah, Momma, somebody's coming to get you. Somebody's coming to get you on Tuesday. Somebody's coming to get you on Wednesday. Somebody's coming to get you Thursday. Somebody's coming to get you on Friday' - and she drowned Friday night. She drowned on Friday night,'' Broussard said.

"Nobody's coming to get her, nobody's coming to get her. The secretary's promise, everybody's promise. They've had press conferences - I'm sick of the press conferences. For God's sakes, shut up and send us somebody.''

Why have I never seen The Daily Show before?

"They can't hear you. But soon, the whole world will hear you not being heard by them!"

"And the message from each speaker was the same - over and over and over again - 'This is what happens to your hair when you won't let gay people touch it.'"

I will so have John Stewart's babies.

We went to Barnes & Noble at the Coliseum today for coffee and cocoa, and ended up spending money. Sadly, this is what usually happens to me when I walk through the front doors of that store. I walked out with the Daily Show DVDs (everyone was amazed I'd never seen them and promptly bullied me into buying them) as well as a few books I'd been meaning to buy, including a second copy of Perdido Street Station which [livejournal.com profile] minerva710 recommended to me, and which I think my brother will love.

I wanted to pick up Dead Beat by Jim Butcher, but they were sold out. This is a sign that I should wait till it comes out in paperback. I will have to wait months before I get any more Thomas & Harry. Sadness.

The temperature finally dropped. It's only about 80 degrees out right now, and with the breeze it feels cooler. No AC for two days now, and hopefully I won't need it again this year. *crosses fingers*
